 THE GREAT CANCER SCARE OF 2023

Let me just tell you what happened to me,

'Twas the great cancer scare of 2023,

Wherein I failed my wellness visit Cologuard test,

Meaning cancer at worst, a false positive at best.

Immediately my mind imagined the worst,

Colon cancer slammed into my thoughts,

Grabbing hard, not letting go,

The next step the unwelcome colonoscopy,

Sure I was of my demise,

Seen through disbelieving eyes.

How could I have cancer on top of PD?

The ordeal seemed a bit harrowing for me.

Yet others have shouldered just as much if not more,

Could cancer really be darkening my door?

It took weeks to schedule the colonoscopy,

Until then I lived in a free fall,

Wanted to curl up in the smallest of balls,

Telling only a few friends of my plight,

All of whom told me I would be all right.

The prep for the colonoscopy was actually a breeze,

I chugged that laxative with exquisite ease,

An interesting night and morning after with diarrhea,

My PD slowness and my swallowing were calmed for once,

It was all quiet on the western front.

For the procedure I had to turn off my deep brain stimulation.

Then was knocked out alas for the duration,

Woke up to find it was just two benign polyps, nothing more,

No cancer found and my peace of mind restored.

I have lost my fear of the dreaded colonoscopy,

It was painless, easy and worry free,

I have an important save the date,

For the same procedure in 2028.

So for the best lifesaving tip, get your regular colonoscopy

I'm guessing that's the greatest lesson,

It's the best use of your time for maximum peace of mind.

And so grateful am I to have at last broken free,

From the great cancer scare of 2023.
