LET IT GO
Let it go although it's not your nature,
To pause in life and change your course.
Runs counter to your intuition, it somehow just feels wrong.
Your will to self-destruct is strong,
But believe me when I tell you
Someday you're going to lack the strength
And it's then you must send the grudges flying.
Hear the witches and the evil spirits crying in the distance.
Doing a penitent dance across the stratosphere,
Let it go, like the snows of winter that pass into an uneasy spring.
Let it go, into the black hole of space, past Saturn's ring.
You will burn at both ends but soon will feel lighter and inexplicably bold.
Let it go before you get bitter and old.
Let go the demons that live in your mind
That wreck your peace, destroy your sleep.
Let go the grudges that darken your present
Break you down and make you weep.
In your hopeless clinging to what was
Your love affair with the past.
Let it go into the rushing river of time,
Before it engulfs you like a drug or a dragon.
Let it go, splintering like rotten, decaying wood,
You know you really should and you know it's oh, so hard,
To play the sweet surrender card, but still you must learn to trust.
And let it go although it's not your nature.
Though you see it as being weak, a perversion of justice sweet,
You already lack the strength, and you must send those regrets flying,
Hear the monsters and the demons crying in the distance.
Doing their lonely penitent dance into the stratosphere.
Pardon those that wronged you and perhaps yourself,
For holding onto hate and fear.
Go into the day lighter and with grace,
Splash a bit of cold water on your face,
And give to God what you cannot forgive.
You have a right to rise above the past and all its sad debris,
Rise gracefully, live free, and let it go.
